John's choice

John understood that his cancer was advanced and he accepted he was dying. He therefore chose not to have any further invasive procedures that would prolong his life. He wanted to eat and drink normally, despite the risks that were explained to him. His wish was to “maintain my dignity and comfort and spend quality time with my family”. John’s family respected his wishes and the health care team supported his end-of-life plan. John died in comfort, several days later, supported by his family. John’s daughter “I was so relieved that Dad was able to tell us what he wanted, because when the time came we didn’t have to decide whether to let them give Dad new treatment. Mum and I have talked about it and we are going to write down our wishes about what we would want. Then no one has to guess for us.” What to think about
