Welcome to the Respecting Patient Choices website

If your choices for future health care are known, they can be respected.

You have the right to have a say in your health care, now and for the future. Advance care planning involves talking to others and making decisions about your future health care and medical treatment. You and your family can be reassured that when your wishes are known they can be respected by doctors and nurses and others involved in your care.

Medical treatment should only be given with your fully informed consent and you have the right to refuse any treatment. If, in the future, you become unable to express your choices for treatment, your doctors and family and friends may not know what you would want. By talking to your doctor, family and friends, advance care planning gives you the opportunity to record your choices ahead of time.
